Invite Cindy Crawford into your home.
The supermodel has a line of furniture — Cindy Crawford Home — which she featured Friday afternoon at Levin Furniture in Monroeville.
Crawford, 45, who lives in California with her husband, 12-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter, spends most of her time at home, which sparked her interest in furniture. She designed and developed the collection of living room furniture with family, value, quality and style in mind. The furniture features luxurious durable fabrics and carefully selected leathers — all thoughtfully incorporated into the designs to appeal to a wide variety of lifestyles. Styles include a mix of contemporary, classic and casual designs.
Her kitchen and family room are her favorites because they are places the whole family can be together doing their own things. She wears a lot of jeans, so incorporating denim into some of the furniture was a must.
Levin Furniture is one of 10 retailers across the country to carry the line. Crawford also has a collection of home accessories that sells through JC Penney stores.
She found moving from an interest in fashion to furniture a natural shift.
“It certainly does translate, because the lines of the fabrics are similar to lines in clothing, and a lot of furniture is designed in colors and patterns that come from what is on trend in the fashion world,” Crawford said. “It also helps that I have worked with some of the most well-known international fashion designers in the world.
“I also have included some of my Midwest upbringing into the line to help create value and functional pieces,” she said. “The furniture you have says a lot about you from how you set a table to how you entertain friends.”
Looks aren’t everything when it comes to beauty and furniture, she said.
“I would want a blind person to feel comfortable on my furniture,” she said. “Appearance shouldn’t be the only thing. It’s more important what’s underneath.”
She chose Levin Furniture because of the company’s 91-year history in western Pennsylvania.
“We are really thrilled that Cindy has come to Pittsburgh,” said Robert Levin, president and owner of Levin Furniture. “She has a wonderful collection and has been involved in the design with some of the top manufacturers in the world. She brings a great sense of style to her designs, and we’re very eager to see how our customers respond to the new looks.”
Levin Furniture’s dedication to helping charities played a part in Crawford’s choice, she said. On Friday morning, she visited Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where she and Levin made a donation to Children’s Hospital Charities. The two were part of a $10,000 check presentation to a representative of the Susan G. Komen Pittsburgh Race for the Cure Friday afternoon. Through June 7, with any purchase of the Crawford collection, Levin Furniture will make a contribution to the Susan G. Komen and Children’s Charities.
“I lost a brother to leukemia when I was 10 and he was 4,” Crawford said, “so anything I can do to help children who are ill, I will. You are so lucky to have such a wonderful children’s hospital here in Pittsburgh. It is an amazing hospital. It doesn’t look like a hospital. It has a relaxing vibe to it.”
Crawford will be at Levin Furniture in Monroeville from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday to sign autographs and for photo opportunities.
