A bed is a very personal thing that directly represents the owner’s personality and character. The selection of the bed depends on someone’s desire; include its style, model, material and cost. Before purchasing a new bed, you have to aware about the details and its guarantee, hard or soft, and size. For the consideration, a good bed is a bed that stands for it’s comfortably up to 10 years. Instead choosing a good bed, you also have to pay attention while purchasing bedside cabinets. Good bedside cabinets are not only match to your bedroom’s interior but also cover the comfortable matter to you as someone who stays with it. Before you go shopping for these bedside cabinets, you should make your eyes open to the detail interior of your bedroom include wood and metal accents. If you have wood accents around your bedroom, such as; side board trims, bed frame trimming, and, window trimming you should take them as samples to order the same trimming for your bedside cabinets. Whereas for metal accents, you just keep fitting the color. For example, if your interior is dominantly gold, you should choose the darker woods, such as pine, as bedside cabinets to blow up your bedroom’s toughness. On the other hand if you have lighter interior, you should choose the lighter bedside cabinets too, such as oak.

Another matter about choosing the best fit thing for your bedroom is leather beds. Leather bed officially brings elegance at your bedroom if you are clever enough to choose. When purchasing the leather bed, you should be details in paying more attention to the colors and textures. Leather brings you more comfortable and more valuable look. Leather beds commonly come to range of color in buttery white to profound dark mahogany. The mixture of right color and texture selection will come to artistically elegance bedroom. After seeing all the details of your bedroom interior, here comes time to go shopping. To get the finest quality of beds, bedsides cabinets, and leather beds, you should go frequently to the window shopping to ask every detail from the expert directly. More knowledge you know, more advantages that will you get.

There are so many beds for sale out there but there is less in amount which is in best qualities. As a woman, you must be interested to buy every unique bed that you see. But be careful because although it looks so stunning in the display, I am not sure that it will fit to your bedroom. Here, you just should not be an impulsive buyer, but you must be a cunning buyer with some thoughts of every detail you need above your head. Happy sagaciously shopping!

Facebook has acquired Sofa, a software company based in Amsterdam, which created Mac apps like Kaleidoscope and Versions. In an announcement on Sofa’s blog, the company says:

We expected to keep working at Sofa forever. But after Facebook first made contact, we were quickly convinced to join forces.

Facebook is full of talent and has a great culture. We feel challenged and at home at the same time, and can really get things done there. But equally important, we believe that at Facebook, we will be making a real difference to a lot of people’s lives.

The Sofa team will be moving from Amsterdam to Palo Alto in the coming weeks – and we’ll make sure to infuse some of our particular flavor of Dutch culture at Facebook.

Kaleiodscope and Versions aren’t part of the acquisition, but they’ll both remain available, as the firm says it’s working on “securing a great future for the outside Sofa.” They also say they’re working with a joint venture partner to provide a smooth transition and “best possible future” for its other products Checkout and Enstore.

A Facebook spokesperson said, as quoted by The Next Web, “We noticed their products and then found and met them at SXSW and realized our team values and cultures were really similar. Then we invited them to FB. Rest is history!”

In a statement, the company also said, “The team will contribute to a wide selection of the products that the design team works on. Typically, each Facebook product has a designer who is a core part of the team.”

It will be very interesting to see what Facebook features come of this acquisition. The financial terms have not been disclosed.

DENVER – On their way to Michigan International Speedway for this weekend’s Sprint Cup race, Regan Smith and the Furniture Row Racing team took a detour to southeastern Virginia to test their road-racing cars at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in preparation for next week’s road-course race in Sonoma, Calif.

“Because our team is based in Denver, Colorado that doesn’t mean we can’t do the same things as the teams based in North Carolina,” Smith said. “The ownership and management at Furniture Row are deeply committed to putting the best product on the track week in and week out. Testing at VIR is only one small example of that commitment and the team guys are equally dedicated. As a driver, it’s a great feeling to know that you have this kind of support.”

Smith knows that when he gets strapped into his No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet for Sunday’s Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 that the potential is there to compete up front.

After the first 14 races of the season, he has claimed one win (Darlington), one top-five and three top 10s. He has qualified in the top-five in 50 percent of the races and ranks second in starting average with a 9.571. Carl Edwards leads with a starting average of 9.357.

“Our recent 15th-place finish in Pocono was decent, but as I have said in the past, we’re just okay with top 15s, we want to have results in the top-10 and top-five,” Smith said. “Though we’re making steady progress, we need to get stronger if we want to get in the top-20 in points and have a possible wild card spot in the Chase.”

With his one victory this season, Smith could land a wild card Chase berth based on NASCAR’s new criteria for making the post-season lineup. But in order for Smith to take advantage of the victory he needs to be positioned in the top-20 in points.

“We gained some ground last week by picking off two positions,” Smith said, who is currently 27th in points, 47 shy of the coveted top-20 ranking. “We know it’s doable, but we can’t afford the big mistakes or the big crashes.”

The two-mile Michigan track is a facility where Smith and the Furniture Row team feel they can make up ground, barring any unexpected issues.

“Michigan is a track where I truly feel we can produce a strong performance,” Smith said. “It’s wide and you can pass there. Last year we had solid performances at MIS but didn’t get the finishes (21st and 23rd) that our Furniture Row Chevrolet deserved. It’s time to change that and come away with a strong finish and a bunch of Sprint Cup driver points.”

COOKEVILLE — Fire roared through the old Norwalk Furniture factory building on South Willow Avenue Tuesday afternoon, sending black clouds of smoke high into the air and causing an estimated $50,000 damage to the unoccupied building.

Cookeville Fire Department and Putnam County Fire Department firefighters spent several hours extinguishing the blazes, and investigators are working today to determine the cause of the fire.

It was around 3:20 p.m. when passersby began calling 911 and reporting the fire, said Cookeville Fire Department Capt. Matt White.

“When we arrived, we found that the fire was in a metal warehouse section of the old factory and a stack of wood pallets in there was burning and the roof was on fire,” he said.

The old factory building has not been occupied for many years, but has been used for storage and has deteriorated in some areas over the years, as vandals and thieves have targeted it.

Currently, the building is owned by a bank in another state, according to White.

The 16 city firefighters on duty at the time of the fire were quickly joined by 17 off-duty firefighters who were called in and 12 of the county’s volunteer firefighters, he said.

“We laid large hoses and put a large amount of water to the fire using our big ‘deluge guns,’ hoses with large nozzles for a high volume of water.”

Using aerial attack trucks, the firefighters attacked the fire from the top and after a time succeeded in containing the fire to that one warehouse area, White said.

No one was in the building when the firefighters arrived, and no one was injured during the six hours of work at the scene, he said.

“We were there till 9:30 p.m. mostly watching one trouble spot on that roof.”

White gave a rough estimate of the damage as $50,000.

He said the Putnam Ambulance Service and the Putnam Rescue Squad stood by to treat firefighters if they became overheated and said the Cookeville Police Department provided traffic control in the area.

The cause of the fire is not known, but with no electric power to the building and no obvious indication of any other fire source, the case was turned over to police for investigation.

The building once housed a thriving furniture building business, but has not been used for anything other than storage for many years.

Art Van Award of Hope is Given to 4 Leaders

Who gives away a million dollars? Art Van does! With no strings attached, Art Van Furniture will award grants from $5,000 to $50,000 to support 50 Michigan-based nonprofit organizations that focus on children, health and human services programs.

The announcement was made at an exciting event at the Art Van Lansing store. The evening included special grant announcements and awards, along with the new Art Van Award of Hope which recognizes the outstanding philanthropic work of four individuals and their favorite charities.

The 2011 Art Van Award of Hope honorees who have continuously displayed outstanding work with their charities are L. Brooks Patterson (Rainbow Connection), Maggie Varney (Wigs 4 Kids), Krista Mason (Benjamin’s Hope), and Laurie Baumer (Ele’s Place). In addition to the award each of the four charities received a $5,000 grant.

This is the third year in a row that Art Van Furniture has present its Million Dollar Charity Challenge, designed to encourage the people of Michigan to make a contribution and maximize fundraising opportunities. With this incentive, the 2009 Art Van Million Dollar Charity Challenge donation turned into four million with matched challenges.

“One thing is for certain,” explains Chairman and Founder, Art Van Elslander, “regardless to how worthy a cause may be or how sincere the organization is about achieving its goals, without the proper financial resources, very little can be done. That’s why this challenge is such a big deal.”

Representatives from the previous 100 Art Van Charity Challenge recipients were also on hand at the event, where they received a very special surprise. The remaining 96 charities received an additional grant of $1000!

“We are accepting applications for another 50 deserving recipients, but that does not end the connection with the previous 100,” says Gary Van Elslander, President of Art Van Furniture. “We are committed to assist long-term by providing resources that build success.”

This one of kind program has garnered amazing results. Thousands of lives have been touched and made better as evidenced by a quote from a letter, one of many, received from Art Van Million Dollar Charity Challenge beneficiaries. Here’s the compassionate ending to this particular letter:

Facebook bought Netherlands start-up Sofa for an undisclosed sum yesterday.

The company, which in the past has developed Apple Mac software and design projects, announced the takeover on its blog.

Sofa will be shipped out from Amsterdam to Palo Alto, California in the next few weeks and said it would take its “particular flavour of Dutch culture” to Mark Zuckerberg’s social network.

The outfit, which started life in 2006, said it was unable to resist Facebook’s charm.

“We expected to keep working at Sofa forever. But after Facebook first made contact, we were quickly convinced to join forces,” said Sofa.

“Facebook is full of talent and has a great culture. We feel challenged and at home at the same time, and can really get things done there. But equally important, we believe that at Facebook, we will be making a real difference to a lot of people’s lives.”

Unsurprisingly, Facebook hasn’t acquired Sofa’s full kit ‘n’ kaboodle of Apple-flavoured products. Its Kaleidoscope and Versions software didn’t form part of the buyout, said the Dutch firm. Instead those Mac developer tools will be separate from Sofa.

The apps are temporarily unavailable in the Mac App Store, presumably while the Facebook acquisition rumbles on. Sofa said it was talking to Apple about this and hoped to make the tools available via Cupertino’s online store soon.

“We’re also working with our joint venture partner to provide the smoothest transition and best possible future for Checkout, Enstore and their collective customers,” it said.

The partner in question is Acclivity, which will sell and support the products from here on in. There was no mention in the statement, however, that the apps would get any further developer love.

Sofa will be folded into Facebook’s design team, which presumably wants to prettify its offerings. ®

Bernie Siomiak has a new furniture business called Crazy Bernie, and a guarantee to fit the name. For any item sold in his store, he said, if a customer can find it for less anywhere in the country or on the Internet and he doesn’t pay that person double the difference, the customer can punch him in the face.

Siomiak, who owned World Furniture Direct until it closed in early April, started the new business with a different name and a different approach. He buys furniture at a discounted price either from other furniture stores that have not sold the product and need money to pay the bills, or from retailers overseas whose original clients are unable to pay.

“Instead of buying furniture the way everyone else buys it, I buy it from wholesalers when they’re desperate for money, and they’ve got to get rid of stuff,” Siomiak said.

He said competition is fierce with more than 120 furniture stores in the area, such as Gary O Furniture and Fashion Furniture.

The store opened May 1 at World Furniture Direct’s old space. It has a 30-foot-tall painting of the “Crazy Bernie face,” the company’s logo.

Bush Business Furniture (BBF) — a global manufacturer of case goods office furniture and the commercial division of Bush Industries — announced today it will showcase at NeoCon 2011 its transactional business capabilities and how furniture dealers can tap into a burgeoning $1 billion market. Highlighting its unique value proposition for furniture dealers, BBF will display its office furniture lines and how they fit into four distinctive transactional market scenarios, including: the remote office space, the office at home, the traditional small business, and the non-traditional small business.

Since its rebranding as BBF a year ago, the division is growing to become a leading source of office furniture for the transactional market customer. To support furniture dealers seeking to serve these customers and expand their revenue streams, BBF has increased its sales team to include additional independent sales representatives in geographic regions from coast-to-coast. Recent additions include: Gd Brower Inc., Mackintosh Contract and Options Business Furniture, Inc.

“It’s been nearly a year since we rebranded our commercial division as BBF, and in that short period of time, BBF clearly is establishing itself as a leader in serving the needs of the transactional customer,” said Jim Sherbert, CEO of Bush Industries. “We offer tremendous value and facilitate the process for dealers who want to take advantage of transactional business without changing how they are doing business now.”

BBF will feature at NeoCon (7th Floor, Showroom #4102) how its product and service capabilities are designed to help dealers meet the changing needs of their customer base while remaining profitable. BBF targets transactional customers in all business scenarios, ranging from the corporate employee working remotely and the entrepreneur launching a business from home to the small graphic design firm or other non-traditional business office. The product lines BBF will display at the show include Momentum, Sector, Milano2, Quantum, Enterprise and Syndicate. The service capabilities BBF will feature help dealers serve the transactional customer better with free space planning, fast shipping, co-branded marketing programs, aggressive showroom discount package and Bush’s trademarked Install 360 program.

“BBF brings value to dealers through our service capabilities, which are unmatched in the industry and provide dealers the opportunity to tap into new revenue streams traditionally left to office superstores and others,” said Mike Chefalo, Vice President of Product Management, Commercial Products for Bush Industries. ”Not only do we offer an extensive range of superior quality office furnishings, but we provide fast delivery and installation with our Install 360 program and complimentary space designing that enables designers to provide their customers with office furniture solutions that meet their space requirements and needs.”

BBF provides a broad scope of commercial grade products and services, which are aligned to the transactional requirements of all businesses, as well as specific market niches such as the serious office-at-home professional. While BBF furniture is commercial quality, it is specifically designed to fit the shipping and installation needs of the transactional market by meeting standard ground shipping criteria, quick assembly, etc. The company specializes in simplified ordering and fulfillment for smaller installations and immediate needs, appealing to furniture dealers who don’t have the resources and infrastructure to support them.

BBF’s NeoCon 2011 Showroom to Feature Customer Scenarios

To demonstrate the value BBF offers dealers, the company has designed this year’s showroom at NeoCon to demonstrate how its products and services address four transactional customer scenarios:

Office@Home – The entrepreneur launching a business or the business consultant with an office at home typically has a limited budget, but needs high-quality furniture immediately for an office space that fits within their home environment. They may need space design assistance and delivery and installation service.

The Remote Worker – The remote worker could be in a non-traditional office space away from a central business hub or a corporate employee who has been sent home to work due to an office closing or downsizing. They also will have budget constraints, but still need dealer services, as well as deliver and installation for an atypical office environment.

Traditional Small Business – Most small businesses have fewer than 10 employees, but still require quality furniture with professional space planning and installation/delivery services. It’s a small order for some dealers, but where else can small businesses turn for the furnishing solutions they require?

Non-Traditional Small Business – The non-traditional small business can range from a graphic design firm to gaming developers. They want contemporary furnishings that address their technology and collaboration needs. But, they likely have a limited budget and unusual office space that requires dealer services.

BBF’s comprehensive selection of furnishing solutions for the workplace span from its latest Momentum and Sector collections to its space-conscious Syndicate and Enterprise collections. A broad spectrum of furniture sizes and styles are available, with finish options, base and leg details, and line extensions that make it easy to add-on pieces and expand to and within any office environment. All of BBF’s products are tested to meet or exceed professional ANSI-BIFMA standards for safety and performance and are backed by a 10-year or limited lifetime warranty. New products are continuously being developed and added as the market demands.

Steelcase will be showing the latest in media:scape this week at NeoCon.

This week, West Michigan’s office furniture industry heads to Chicago’s Merchandise Mart for NeoCon, a collective unveiling of the latest products. These new desks, chairs, tables and sofas are also a reflection of how we are working, learning and healing differently than even a decade ago.

We are more mobile, casual and flexible about where we work.

Since nobody wants to feel like they are always working, the institutional look of the office, school and hospital is giving way to furnishings with a more residential feel, evoking the comfort of a stylish living room or trendy coffee shop.

Private workspaces — from the coveted corner office to the lowly cubicle — are disappearing to make room for employees to work in collaboration, a growing strategy by companies to quickly respond to an ever-changing global marketplace.

Classrooms are segueing from a static environment focusing eyes on the sage at the podium to mobile desks that make it easier for students to interact as they are coached by their teachers.

Hospital rooms are being designed not just to set patients at ease but invite family members to remain by their side, and free up nurses for more clinical duties.

It’s a new eco-system, said Chuck Saylor, who has watched the evolution from the airtight buildings erected post-World Ward II when the nation craved security, secrecy and hierarchy to today’s demand for sustainability, collaboration and accessibility.

“We are deconstructing the office environment as we speak,” said Saylor, founder and CEO of the Spring Lake-based IzzyPlus. “You don’t want to be in the middle of deconstruction and not be innovative.”

Those innovative designs reflect extensive research into the ways technology is changing how we live and work.

Casual environment

When a Steelcase researcher followed 15 people home, she discovered they weren’t working in their home offices but on the family room couch or at the kitchen table where they could connect with their family.

“Wireless technology has allowed people to integrate their life and work in ways they haven’t been able to,” said Tom Di Lillo, director of marketing communications for Grand Rapids-based Steelcase’s Coalesse brand.

To meet that need for a casual workspace, Coalesse is introducing Millbrae, lounge seating and occasional tables for lobby, lounge and residential settings, inspired by the mid-century designs of the Metro Furniture brand.

Zeeland-based Herman Miller also is reaching back into its archives to relaunch iconic designs from the 1959 Eames Aluminum Group and an updated version of the Eames lounge with new option for finishes.

Mark Copier | The Grand Rapids PressHaworth Inc. marketing manager Lydia Knowles, left, and field sales representatives Bill and Richelle Black sit in models of the Holland company’s Very seating system chairs last week during a break from a training session.

“It’s back to being furniture again,” said Rob Kirkbride, who writes about the industry for the trade publication The Monday Morning Quarterback. “Which is pretty nice, from a design standpoint, because it allows designers to create beautiful things instead of giant stuff that just holds my computer.”

Now that people can take their technology anywhere, they want choices and flexibility where they work.

Companies are creating furniture that offers the ambience of a Starbucks cafe, a living room or even a patio to make the office a place where employees want to work.

While Starbucks might be credited for creating a hip alternative to the work or home office, the cafe has its drawbacks. The tables are too small. There aren’t the high-tech tools from white boards to monitors to share ideas. Then, there are confidentiality issues. You never know if the competition is drinking a latte at the next table, said Chris Congdon, part of Steelcase’s public relations team.

Workplace collaboration has grown to occupy 80 percent of a typical worker’s day, up from 20 percent group work time a decade ago, according to Steelcase research.

To make room for these new collaborative spaces, companies are shrinking or eliminating offices and cubicles. The 8-by-8 foot cubicle has been trimmed back to an average 6-by-6. As cubicle space shrinks, the walls are coming down.

Private space is no longer an indicator that you have made it in a company. Herman Miller’s vice presidents share a bank of desks — though, on a recent visit, they all sat empty.

“Now, I think mobility is more a status symbol,” Congdon said.

More employees are carrying their workstations in a backpack.

Mark Copier | The Grand Rapids PressHerman Miller director of workplace solutions Lori Gee settles into a Canvas Office Landscape benching station at the Design Yard facility in Holland.

Furniture giants Steelcase, Herman Miller and Haworth are offering versions of “benching,” a long table where workers are side-by-side and across from each other as if sitting down to a meal.

Although benching is common in most European offices, it is being offered in the North American market as an option for workers who need temporary work space where they can plug in or for a highly collaborative team.

“Organizations have to be nimble because the pace of business is changing so much,” said Ryan Anderson, Steelcase’s manager of integrated technologies. “That revelation is what leads people to us. The space needs to reflect what they are doing.”

Even for those who still work at the same desk, they are being encouraged to move. More companies are ordering barstool-type chairs or seating and desks that can easily raise from sitting to standing level.

“We are seeing more standing working stations,” said Tom DeBoer, Haworth’s product manager for seating. “The human body wasn’t designed to sit all day.”

Education, health care

Office furniture companies are taking these furniture solutions into the education and health care markets.

Movement and interaction are increasing a focus of learning environments for K-12 and beyond.

Nearly one-third of Steelcase’s media:scape units, which combine technology in a gathering space — are purchased by universities or colleges. UCLA swapped some of its stacks of books in its libraries for Steelcase’s canopy media:scape to provide a space where students can interact with technology.

Courtesy photoThe Layla conference table by IzzyPlus

Project Nemo is a concept piece IzzyPlus is developing for the higher ed market. It features a bar-height table so students can gather on foot or chair.

Project Nemo is designed to promote connection or spontaneous collaboration or a place to study in solitude.

In health care, the hospital room looks more like a hotel room with chairs and sofas that quickly transform into beds so family members can be with patients through the night.

“They really want the family to stay because they help take care of the patient,” said Jan Carlson, vice president of marketing and product development for Steelcase’s Nurture line.

Herman Miller Healthcare’s Compass products offer a modular system from heated treatment chairs to overbed lights that be reconfigured around new technology.

“The only thing constant in health care is change,” said Joel Vanwyk, director of the company’s Healthcare Product Management.

While there are trends of mobility, flexibility and residential design, furniture companies are staking out different paths, said Kirkbride, who will be covering his 12th NeoCon this week.

“Herman Miller is focused on the classics and mixing it back into the office, which is becoming residential,” Kirkbride said. “Steelcase this year is concentrating on the link between technology and work (while) Haworth is offering universal systems of products that fit everything together from a private office to benching.”

What’s new at NeoCon

Courtesy photoThe new overbed table from Knu.
