I recommend buying as big a sofa as you think your space can handle. Just remember, as a rule of thumb you’ll need about 12-18 inches walking space between the seat’s edge and other objects. Locate and measure permanent elements such as the fireplace and doorways (see warnings). This should give you the ideal size and placement of your sofa.
